How to Keep your Motivation Up Towards the End of the Year

The year is moving fast and we are nearly on to our final few weeks. This time of the year is often filled with social activities and final work deadlines, and it can be hard to keep your motivation and productivity levels up. There are some simple ways you can ensure these final weeks are great ones; here are some tips:

Set Intentions

I know, it’s December, and people tend to wait till January to set resolutions for the new year. But why wait? At the end of the year, it can seem like it’s too late to reach the goals you set yourself at the start of the year. Instead of putting them aside, take some time and set intentions for the remainder of the year. They don’t need to be big; instead, think of attainable goals that you would like to reach before the year is over. Perhaps you want to walk 10,000 steps a day for the rest of the year, or donate your time to a charity over the holiday period, or declutter your house of items you no longer need. Setting such intentions will help you bring purpose to the final weeks of the year, and attain some of your goals. Write them out and hang them in a prominent place in your home so that you are reminded of them daily.

Utilise Your Morning

Winter mornings can be very hard for motivation; it’s dark and cold, and the thing we want to do most is stay in our warm beds just a little bit longer. As enticing as this is, it’s not great for our productivity levels. The morning is a great time to get things done, and by spending your mornings in bed, you are wasting that time. Try setting your alarm for 10 minutes earlier every day for a week; you’ll adjust to waking up an hour earlier by the end of the week. Make your mornings enticing so that you want to get out of bed. Have your warm clothes and slippers set out, ready to put on, and turn your lights on as soon as you wake up. If you’re feeling up to it, get your body moving through some simple stretches. You will soon feel more awake, and ready to take on the day. Take your extra time in the morning to check things off your to-do list, or to get working on those intentions you set.

Start a New Activity

It might seem a little late in the year to start a new activity, but there are still so many options out there. Especially during the holiday period, there are so many new activities cropping up. Wether it’s something spots related, like indoor football or tennis, or something service related, like helping out at a soup kitchen, there’s something out there for everyone. It’s a great way to meet new people, and to learn something new. Have a look on notice boards in your local supermarkets and check online local Facebook groups to find activities near you. Starting a new activity is a great way to inspire motivations and productivity in all areas of your life.

Spend Time Outdoors

I will always be the first to say that nature can solve so many of our problems; spending time outdoors can do you a world of good. This also counts for your motivation levels. Going for a Winter forest walk will not only get your body moving, but it will also help clear your head. The holiday months can be stressful, and often times we feel like there is so much going on, that we don’t have time to get it all done. Taking some time for yourself outdoors will help put everything in perspective, and you will return with a fresh dose of productivity.
